Obituary of Martin Lee Hine

Martin Lee Hine, 59, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, March 23, 2018. Marty was born on January 13, 1959 in Elmira, New York to Melvin and Doris Hine. He attended Southside High School and graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1981. Shortly after, he moved to North Carolina and that became his second home. He worked for FedEx for many years and greatly enjoyed his job there. In June 1998, he married his beloved wife, Tammie, who preceded him in death just 16 months ago. His family finds great comfort in knowing that they are together again. Marty had a love for golf, Duke basketball, vacationing in Hilton Head, and the fellowship of his many friends, but nothing surpassed the love he had for his family. His greatest pride was being called "Dad" and "Papa" by his children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, infectious laugh, and the way his presence filled any room. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Tammie Hine, father, Melvin, and mother, Doris. He is survived by his three sons, Ryan (Katie), Kevin, and Kyle (Rebecca) Hine; two stepsons, Jeremy (Tara) and Jason (Lisa) Walker; four grandchildren, Addison and Reid Walker, and Jameson and Josephine Hine; two sisters, Dianne (Larry) Kishpaugh and Deborah (Richard) Pane; two brothers, Ronald (Carole) and Richard (Lori) Hine; and several adoring nieces and nephews. Marty's family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Monday, April 2, at 2:00 pm. The celebration will be held at Lake Brandt Baptist Church at 1901 Trosper Road, Greensboro, NC 27455. There will be a reception at the church immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tammie's honor.
