Obituary of James Bryant

James Raymond Bryant, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Aldersgate in Charlotte, N.C. A Celebration Life service will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2 pm at the Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Raymond was born in Guilford County on April 15, 1928, the eldest of seven children of the late Charles R. and Eva (Adams) Bryant. Raymond graduated from Greensboro High School in 1945. He was a regular member of the "Lunch Bunch" at Boar and Castle during the late 40's while he was working as a juke box repairman. Working from the age of nine, he helped support his family using his wits and talents during tough times. His hard work allowed siblings to have great Christmas's and one of the first televisions in Greensboro. Raymond served his country, using his talents in electrical engineering with a US Army Special Weapons Unit building atomic bombs during the cold war in the early 1950's. After serving, he returned to Greensboro, working for Western Electric as an assistant electrical engineer for 40 years. Raymond married Nancy Margaret Hackett of Grays Chapel on April 19, 1957. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, loved his hobbies of crafting, stamp collecting, genealogy, and keeping tropical fish, and was everyone's go to for repairs of any kind. Family was the center of his life and you couldn't find a more devoted husband or father. After the passing of his wife in 2000, Ray enjoyed spending time in Charlotte with daughter Karen and in Milwaukee, WI with his daughter Beverly. He treasured time with his granddaughters and took many trips with them, including a visit to Pearl Harbor. He loved volunteering with children at Wehr Nature Center in Wisconsin, where Beverly works. Raymond is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Margaret (Hackett) Bryant; sisters, Virginia (Pearman) and Dorothy (Yow). He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Larry) Crump and Beverly (Selva) Bryant. He will be missed by his beloved granddaughters that he adored, Chrissy, Tanya, Rachel, and Catie. His surviving siblings are David, Charles, Ann (Priddy), and Wayne, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Friends of Wehr Nature Center, 9701 W College Ave, Franklin WI 53132 or (414) 425-8550.
