Obituary of Josephine Dixon Collins

Josephine Dixon Collins passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Jo was born December 1, 1923, raised on a tobacco farm in the Summerfield area, and graduated from Summerfield High School in 1941. She married the late Richard T. Collins on November 26, 1942, they were together for 58 years and had 5 daughters. They were both members of Gethsemane United Methodist Church and spent many years singing in the choir. Jo and her family had just spent a week at Surfside Beach, SC on the Collins Girls annual vacation which she truly enjoyed. Jo loved her Thursday morning visits to Sandy's Beauty Shop, was an incredible cook, an avid reader, could grow anything and she doted on her family. Jo is survived by her daughters and their families Pat Collins Gentry (husband Darris deceased) of Stokesdale (granddaughter Donna Southern and husband Chris of Stokesdale and great-grandson Darryl, wife Jordan and great-great grandson and great-great-granddaughter Carter and Cali of Greensboro); Jennie Collins Bowman and husband Mike of McLeansville (granddaughter Lou Anne Mullis and husband Darrel and great-granddaughters Anne Marie and Georgia of Richfield; grandson Aaron Bowman, wife Elisabeth and great-granddaughter Emma of Greensboro; and grandson Kevin Bowman and wife Joani of Julian); Betty (B.J.) Collins Brame (husband Clayton deceased) (granddaughter Lisa Miller and husband Paul) of Summerfield; Bobbie Collins Wood and husband Danny of Pisgah Forest (granddaughter Amy Galloway and great-granddaughter Katlyn of Brevard and granddaughter Erin Creasman, husband Aaron and great-granddaughter and great-grandson Adelyn and Ethan of Asheville); and Peggy Collins Liverman and husband Don of Brown Summit (grandson Chad Davis, wife Jennaya and great-grandsons Haven and Sam and granddaughter Lindsay Ragusa, husband Anthony and great-grandsons Aiden and Ryan all of Greensboro). A celebration of Jo's life will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017 with Reverend Angela Marlow and Reverend Gerald Collins (Jo's nephew) officiating at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 100 NC150, Greensboro, NC 27455 with the graveside at 11:00, the service immediately following in the sanctuary, and then visitation in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gethsemane United Methodist Church Budget Fund. Lambeth-Troxler Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
