Obituary of William Lloyd
It is with deep sadness that the family of William Lloyd announces his sudden passing early Wednesday morning July 5, 2018 at 91 years of age. William was born and raised in Key West, Florida. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and was an altar server at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea. He left high school early to serve his country during World War II. He served in the Army Air Corps till 1947 and subsequently attended Florida State University on the G.I. Bill. Returning home to Key West he worked for the Postal Service for a number of years before moving to Gainesville, Fl to work at the University of Florida Bookstore. This led to a 20 year career in office supplies with S.P. Richards Company in both Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC. In Charlotte he was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. He moved to Greensboro, NC in 2015 to be closer to his son and grand-daughters.
Known as “Griese” to his family, William will be remembered for his deep Catholic faith, strong work ethic, and devotion to his family. William is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cora (nee Snodgrass); his son, Matthew; daughter-in-law, Kristin: and grand-daughters, Emma and Elizabeth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of William on Tuesday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC with Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio presiding.
