Obituary of Flora Parker Gray

Flora Parker “Doll” Gray, a devoted wife and mother passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Flora, known to all as “Doll”, married Charles W. Gray in 1947.  They were separated only by his death in 2002, after 55 years of marriage. She worked and sacrificed to create a better life for her family.  She was the last surviving member of a family of three children from Meridian, Mississippi.  A native of Lauderdale County, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Homer William Parker and Lena Pearl Sharp Parker.  She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Armond “Bubber” Parker and Homer W. Parker, Jr.

Doll Gray was a lifelong Baptist and was active in her churches in Birmingham, AL; Huntsville, AL and Greensboro, NC.  Doll was everything embodied in the words “Wife and Mother”.  The joys of her life were doing for her family, teaching Sunday School classes and her craft hobbies.  When times were hard, she worked full time to help provide additional income for her family, as well as managing the home.  She was the most giving person we have ever known.

She is survived by her three loving children, Mike Gray of Waynesville, NC, Randy Gray and wife Vicki of Bolivia, NC, and Susan E. Gray of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Jaime Gray, Charlie Gray, and Meredith Gray Carpenter; three great-grandchildren, Harley Gray, Zoe Gray, Eli Gray, Charlie Roy Gray, Adalyn Carpenter, and Cort Carpenter.

Join her family in the celebration of a life well lived at 2:00PM Saturday August 4, 2018 in the sanctuary of Gate City Baptist Church, Greensboro with the Reverend Michael Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro or Gate City Baptist Church.
