Obituary of Marjorie Newton Johnson

Marjorie Newton Johnson died from natural causes at her residence on December 1, 2018. She was 90 years old.

 

She was the daughter of Lee Gaither Newton, Sr. and Mae Canter Newton (both deceased). She was the proud mother of Lynn C. Johnson and Randal W. Johnson. She left five grandchildren; Christopher Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Hillary Vernon (Kyle), Kayla Johnson, and Christa Bowman (Blake). She left three great-grandchildren: Millie Vernon, Nora Vernon, and Benjamin Bowman. Marjorie also had many nieces and nephews, all near and dear to her heart. She was the last surviving sibling. Her deceased siblings follow: Lucille Ritter, Eleanor Rhames, Barbara Coffer, Wade Newton, Gaither Newton, and Clyde Newton.

 

Marjorie lived in Greensboro all her life. Her education began at Revolution School and continued at Caesar Cone and Proximity. She was a graduate of Rankin High School, class of 1946 (honors). She maintained her faithful membership at Northside Baptist Church, 1100 East Cornwallis Drive, Greensboro, NC. She began her membership there, when the church was called Revolution Baptist Church on Lineberry Hill. She was actively involved in the music department for more than 50 years as pianist, organist, and choir member.

 

Visitation with the family will be conducted on Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., at Northside Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. The graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro, NC. Pastor Steve Goode and Army Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) Randal W. Johnson will officiate all services.
