Obituary of Dorothy Belle Hackney

Dorothy Belle Hackney, age 93, long time resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, widow of Hubert Howard Hackney, died December 28, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. She was with her family and friends at the last; now she is with God.

In life, she was a friend to many, the benefactor of many people, and generous contributor to worthy causes. She was a 65 year member of Guilford Baptist Church, where she was a deacon, and involved constantly in numerous church activities, including teaching the same Sunday School class for decades. When she was a young mother with children of her own, she fostered dozens of Children’s Home babies. She lived to the full, enjoyed travel, and until her 90’s travelled extensively in the U. S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the Holy Land. She especially loved Arizona and considered Sedona her ‘second home.’

She was the mother of four children: Daughters Linda Hackney Dekle and Suzanne Hackney Damour live locally. Sons John Hackney and Barry Hackney are deceased. She is survived by two siblings: Ted Gleason and R.J. Gleason; 9 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are by Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on January 2. The funeral service will be held at Guilford Baptist Church at 11:00 am on January 3.
