Obituary of Martha Lynn Swaim

Martha Lynn Snead Swaim, age 73, died peacefully and with dignity on Monday, March 11, 2019 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.  Her loving and devoted husband of almost 54 years and her son, David “Grant” were by her side.

Martha was predeceased by her parents Opie and Margaret Snead, sister Gretchen Toms, and brother Opie (Toby) Snead.  She is survived by her husband David, son David “Grant” and his wife Jennifer, and the sunshine of her life granddaughter Taylor.  In addition, she is survived by sister Sue Hawks and her husband Jerry, brother Richard Snead and his wife Pat, and sister-in-law Jane Snead.  In addition, she is survived by her Aunt Francis Tippett Harris and Uncle Robert Tippett and wife Janice. There are also many nieces, nephews and cousins who will remember her with fond memories. 

Martha was a life-long resident of Greensboro and graduated from Grimsley High School.  She was previously a Teacher Assistant with the Greensboro City Schools.

In her early years, Martha and her family enjoyed rambunctious, but friendly, volleyball games at her church, Buffalo Presbyterian.  Family summer vacations down at Long Beach were loud and boisterous but filled with much love and fun times. Big family get-togethers occurred often, with Martha always being in the center of the planning.  She took great pride in her home and her beautiful flowers, of which she worked diligently to cultivate. She was also a devoted caretaker to her Mother in her later years.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt.  She shared a very special and close relationship with her granddaughter Taylor. She always lit up with pride when talking about her.  There are just so many memories that we will all look back upon so fondly.  We will forever miss her until we are reunited.

The visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro from 6-8 pm.  There will be a private memorial service for family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
