Judith "Judy" Hickey

Obituary of Judith "Judy" Anderson Hickey

Kernersville-Judith Ellen Anderson Hickey, 79, loving wife, and mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2020.  Born in Geneva, New York, on November 25, 1940, “Judy” was the only child of Carl H. Anderson and Ellen Warder Anderson. Her husband, Ronald D. Hickey, preceded her in death in March 2014.

Judy was an educator, a professor in the Business Division at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, VA; and later employed with the US Department of Education in Washington, DC. Judy earned a Doctor of Education degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA; and co-authored two textbooks, Filing Systems and Records Management 3rd (1981) and Records and Database Management (1989).

In retirement Ron and Judy moved to Kernersville to be close to their daughter and her family. They especially enjoyed annual vacations on Ocean Isle Beach that were family reunions with children and grandchildren. They traveled, with highlights including the 2004 Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA to visit their son and his family. Judy’s unexpected favorite travel location was Alaska for the majestic beauty and history. Judy’s life-long hobbies were knitting and reading fiction. She especially enjoyed knitting baby blankets and scarves, and many Kernersville teachers enjoyed receiving a gift of one of her hand-knitted scarves.

She is survived by a daughter, Dawn H. Morgan and husband Eric of Kernersville, a son David Michael Hickey and wife Vicki Sellis of California; and six grandchildren.
