Grady was a life long friend. He extended his hand filled with knowledge and expertise over many years when I needed help with some radio project. I met Grady when I was 16 years old and he was the radio technician for the State Highway Patrol. Over the years he taught me much about radio and encouraged me to become a ham radio operator.
I can't count the number of times that Grady and Shirley invited me to their home. As the years passed, I was introduced to Gordon and Eddie, and have considered the entire family as close friends.
As WG4R, I will miss my close friend, W4ONM as he becomes a "silent key," as is quoted in amateur radio land. There are few men who have reached out to up-and-comers and offered insight and help to those just starting their interest in ham radio.
My prayers and thoughts will be with the family in the difficult days ahead without Grady, a gentleman, a scholar, and a good friend.

Don’t know where to start. Our families shared so many good times together. One of my favorites was a camping / dirt bike riding trip to Green Mountain Resort. A gentleman from another camping spot came by and watched the boys climb a steep embankment. He was unaware that the girls had already been up and down a couple of times. He bet Grady that the girls couldn’t make the hill climb. Grady told him to get his wallet, the fellow said which one is gonna climb. Grady responded they all will. And of course we did. Dinners at Greene’s Supper Club, and chicken behind the shop at Holland Electric Company. All recorded by our personal photographer Shirley. Condolences to Shirley, Gordon, Eddie And their families. Catherine Holland Smith.

I remember the day Grady took me for a ride on his motorcycle from our home on Lee’s Chapel Rd in Greensboro,NC and then had to comb all the tangles out of my long hair. A picture of it hangs in my parents business (Bill and Dot Holland). So sorry for your loss Shirley, Gordon and Eddie.

Shirley, Ed, Gordon and family, So sorry for your loss of Grady. He kept our business in touch with each other for many years. He treated us as a friend and not just another customer. It was always good to talk with Ed at church and get the latest up-dates on Grady's health. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Enjoyed and will forever cherish all the thousands of Baseball Games that Grady and I went to !!!!!!! Most of them at Memorial Stadium in Greensboro. Where Grady and I worked on that old Scoreboard many a day , and right up to Game time a lot of the time. Grady was a Man that would bent over backwards to help you !!!!!! Grady was as KIND, HELPFUL and GENUINE a PERSON as you will meet !!!!!!!!! Grady took thousands and thousands of pictures of people he met at the Baseball Games and would send them out by emails the next day That by itself took time, but that was what GRADY WAS ALL ABOUT !!!!!!! GRADY and I were fortunate(along with others) to throw out the First Pitch at the LAST Greensboro Bats Baseball Game at MEMORIAL STADIUM !!!!!! WHAT MEMORIES I WILL FOREVER HAVE AND CHERISH !!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU GRADY AND WILL NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!

Shirley and family, so sorry for your loss. I have known you and Grady so many years through my Mom and Dad (Skipper and Bud (Pop) Poplin). I remember when you all use to come to the house with some of the other policemen and visit. Daddy thought a lot of Grady. Rest In Peace Grady.
