I have known Kern ever since the second grade starting at St. Mary’s elementary school thru graduation at Kendrick High in Columbus Ga. He was a loyal friend during our teenage years. I remember his parents and our friendship when we played games at his home. The last time I saw Kern was at our ten year high school reunion. Wishing now we could have stayed in touch. Have thought about him a lot recently and was hoping to see him at our fifty high school reunion. Guess I will see him in heaven.

Kern married into my life through my childhood neighbor Penny, and they both were like surrogate parents during my teenage years. Kern was a standin father for me when my own was misbehaving. He taught me to play softball, and he threw the ball hard at the 12 year old girl. He toughened me up. Together Penny and Kern got me though my adolescence. I was a dry run for their own girls and was delighted to be able to show one of them (Lee) around when she came to Rome, Italy. It was too many years since I saw Kern in person, but he has always traveled with me in one way or another. He left way too soon.

Our deepest condolences go out to you Penny, and the girls. Although we knew Kern for a short time, we'll always remember the good times at Don Juans, and the pie parties. He always had a smile on his face, especially when he was holding a chocolate cream pie! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, love, Marty and Cathy

Kern,
I will miss Saturday night fish dinners with you and Penny, our conversations, trying different red wines, and the enjoyment you got out of making fun of my accent. Lisa remembers you being such a jokester at Lee's wedding. She enjoyed that time she shared with you bossing you around. We had some good laughs and good times. Know that I will be there for Penny, Lee, Carson, Kenny, and Josh. They love you so much. Thanks for being my friend.
