Obituary of Elsie Pearl Lynch Nuckles

Elsie Pearl Lynch Nuckles, 88, of Browns Summit, departed this world Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the AuthoraCare Hospice in Burlington.

The family will receive friends from 9am to 10am, August 7th at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Greensboro. Service will commence at 10am, August 7th, officiated by Pastor Joseph Kim and Bart Friddle. Burial will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to Elsie’s house for a luncheon reception following interment.

Elsie was born on November 13,1932, to the late Clyde and Eunice Lynch. She is the first daughter of eight children and grew up on a tobacco farm in Palmer Springs, VA. Elsie graduated from South Hill High School in 1950.

Elsie was an entrepreneur during a generation when motivated businesswomen were uncommon. Alongside her late husband Arnold, she worked countless hours serving others at Nuckles BBQ Restaurant on Hwy 29N. Later obtaining her NC Real Estate Brokers License.

A strong independent women she was committed to her community and actively involved in grassroot and statewide politics with the objective of improving the lives of others.  Elsie was a member of St Paul United Methodist church and later regularly attended services at Lees Chapel United Methodist church.  Regarding the latter, Elsie found great personal satisfaction by being involved in a tutoring program open to all school age children.

If you were lucky enough to have known Elsie, you would know how much she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She sought out opportunities to be active in their lives creating strong and lasting bonds. She was an accomplished Western Horseback rider appearing in numerous parades and riding competitions.

She is survived by her only child, Theresa Nuckles Shackelford (Hayden) of Creedmoor, NC. Granddaughter Holly Shackelford Wessmiller (Brian), grandson Harrison Shackelford. and great grandchildren Kylie and Rayden Wessmiller.

Stepson Chipper Nuckles (Jim), granddaughters Christine Hughes, Heather Gordon (Fred), and grandson Donald Nuckles. Brother Calton Lynch (Judy), Sisters Doris Preachers (Charles), Joyce Morgan, and Violet Slack (Dave). Greatgrand sons Alex Hughes and Jamie Defate. Extended family Jomi Suhonen (Anne), and special friend Gary Vincent.

She is preceded in death by husband Arnold Harrison Nuckles, stepson Don Nuckles, and granddaughter Tonya Nuckles Defate. Brothers Rogers, Douglas, and Melvin Lynch.
