Obituary of Julia L. "Judy" Nelson

Julia L. “Judy” Nelson, 80, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

A native of Kernersville, NC, Judy was the daughter of the late Harvey Nelson and Doskey N. Nelson. She was a lifelong educator with over 40 years of service. Judy retired in 2006 from Carver High School, Winston-Salem, NC. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and thoroughly enjoyed and loved her extended Nelson family. Judy was loved and respected by her students and staff, and will be missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her son, Nelson Cowden and wife, Christi of Yadkinville, NC; granddaughter, Ivy Cowden; grandson, Ben Cowden; sister, Mildred Weavil; and brothers, Roger Nelson, and Ralph Nelson and wife, Faye.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her grandson, Tom Cowden; sisters, Margie McKaughn, Nettie Jane Nelson, and Micky Nelson; brothers, Glenn Nelson, Carl Nelson, and Richard Nelson.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 3:00PM Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel.
