Leon Therrien

Obituary of Leon Edward Therrien

Leon Edward Therrien Sr., 92, of Greensboro, NC passed in peace on August 14, 2021.

He was born on August 7, 1929, in Pawtucket, RI to the late Gertrude and Leon Z. Therrien.

A loving husband to the late Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Therrien, Leon joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he honorably served our nation during the Korean War. On his return, he completed his education with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Rhode School of Design. From there he spent his sales career in the Textile Industry which brought him and his family to the Carolinas.

Leon boxed during his years within the Navy but he enjoyed all sports.  He was an accomplished golfer and avid reader with a terrific sense of humor. A lover of animals, he managed to care for many over the years with the same love and compassion he had for his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Leon was preceded in death by his first son, Leon E. Therrien Jr.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Therrien of Greensboro, NC; daughters, Lynn Therrien of Greensboro, NC and Karen Knowles of North Providence, RI; granddaughters and their families, Amberley and her husband Randy Honaker of Greensboro, NC and Erin Zona and Patrick Jolicoeur of North Smithfield, RI; great-grandsons, Taylor Lee Lunsford, Randy Edward Honaker Jr., and Martin Thomas Jolicoeur; and his dear friends, Wayne, Nancy and Dawn.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your local Hospice.
