Obituary of Earl Leatherman

Mr. Earl Robert Leatherman, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, after a brief stay in the Palliative Care Unit in Wesley Long Hospital. Mr. Leatherman was born October 9, 1917 in Akron, Ohio, to E. Roy and Bernice Leatherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Leatherman, during World War II and two wives: Marian Virginia Leatherman who was the mother of his children and Katie Belle Leatherman. A graduate of Akron University, Mr. Leatherman was a career employee of the U.S. Government in Washington, DC for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1973. In past years, he was a member of Toastmasters International; and he also enjoyed singing as a member of a barbershop chorus. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Lindsay and her husband Norman of Greensboro; son, Edwin Leatherman and his wife Sue of Waynesboro, PA; son, Larry Leatherman and his wife Jill of Loxley, AL; son, Timothy Leatherman of Birmingham, AL; twelve grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. A sister, Phyllis Hatch, of Mesa, AZ also survives. There will be no viewing or local funeral service. Mr. Leatherman will be buried in Falls Church, VA. Arrangements are being handled by Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
