Obituary of John Lancaster

Mr. John David Lancaster, Sr., 95, of Woodside Drive, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, at Lakeview Memorial Park. John was born in Johnston County on October 2, 1913, the son of Boaz Walter and Flora Stephenson Lancaster. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran and was a self employed shoemaker, owning and operating John's Shoe Shop. He was a member of Eller Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Paschal Lancaster; a son, John David Lancaster, Jr. and two brothers, Walter William Lancaster and Robert Earl Lancaster. Surviving are his wife of the home, Mildred Staples Lancaster; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Reed of Greensboro; two sons, Richard Lancaster (Anne) of New London, N.C. and Robert Lancaster (Martha) of Franklinville, N.C.; one sister, Mae Paschal of Greensboro; two brothers, Raymond Lancaster (Martha Ann) of Greensboro and Alvin Lancaster (Delores) of Michawaka, Indiana; a step daughter, Angie Powell (Mickey) of Greensboro; three step sons, Larry (Nancy) Paschal, Jackie, and Steve (Paula) Paschal all of Greensboro; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and seven step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service. Memorials may be to Eller Memorial Baptist Church 1111 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
