Obituary of Melvin Odell Adkins

Melvin Odell Adkins, 87, of Greensboro, NC, was born on March 29, 1931 in Rockingham County. He died peacefully at home on November 1, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Cone Mills -White Oak Plant where he worked in the machine shop. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union as a Truck Driver. Melvin was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willie and Ollie Adkins and beloved wife, Barbara Jean Adkins. He is survived by his wife, Louise Adkins, of the home; children, Wesley Adkins (Suzanne), Deborah Lunsford (Raydean), Rhonda Stewart and Pete Brown (Michelle); stepchildren, Michael Stanley (Kim), Maria Hamlor; grandchildren, Shannon Taylor (Justin), Malissa and Nikki Stewart, Marianna, Nicolas and Olivia Adkins, Jennifer, Season and Sean Brown; 12 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 11 am - 12 pm at the Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home on Wendover Avenue, the Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12 pm in the Lambeth-Troxler Chapel with the interment immediately following at Lakeview Memorial Park.
