Obituary of Doris Nelson Hansen

On September 13, Doris Nelson Hansen died. She was a native of Brooklyn, NY and moved with her husband and children from Staten Island, NY to Greensboro, NC in 1967. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gertrude Nelson, her husband Ernest Hansen, and sister, Barbara Brundage. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Jane and David Clark and Lise and Don McBrayer, grandsons Ian McBrayer and his wife Jenn and Luke McBrayer, granddaughter Erin Clark, nephews and niece and their families. She had a long and happy life. Her God and family were most important to her. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday School, sung in two choirs, been a Women's Circle Leader and served on Church Council and various committees. She loved sewing and enjoyed making quilts for distribution to local non-profits and the world through Lutheran World Releif. Her passion was theatre, and through the years she performed in many local and professional theatres as well as movies and TV. She experienced great joy in using her theatre experience in her church and community. In 1989, she retired from Gilbarco, Inc. after 19 years. During and subsequent to her retirement, she represented Gilbarco as a Loaned Executive for the United Way for 13 consecutive years and was fondly referred to as "the oldest living Loaned Executive." Through the years she volunteered at Greensboro Urban Ministry, Triad Health Project, The Bell House, and the Crop Walk Steering Committee at GUM. In recent years, as a resident of Abbotswood, she wrote and directed several plays with other residents as the cast. She led a full and busy life, and her hope was that in some way she could make a difference in her community and especially in the lives of those she loved. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held September 16 at 11:am at First Lutheran Church, 3600 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.lambethtroxlerfuneralhome.com.
