Obituary of Bettie Barefoot Burnett

Isaiah 41:10……..Wednesday March 7th Mrs Bettie Ann Barefoot Burnett died peacefully with loved ones and family at her side. The above scripture was not only underlined in her bible by her bedside, but was also found quoted on a bookmark in those same pages. Those words define how she felt about her devotion to her Heavenly Father and why she had comfort at the end. Bettie was born January 28th, 1938 in Georgia to the late John and Margaret Barefoot. At a young age the family moved to Sampson County North Carolina where she spent her childhood with her brothers John, Paul, and Carl Barefoot, who are still with us, and Joe and Gene Barefoot, who preceded her in death. Bettie grew into the caring young lady she was, and before starting a family of her own she had a short career as a nurse. Eventually she married, giving birth to a daughter Jackilyn Lundy of Wilmington, and two sons, Nate Lundy of Burgaw, and Taylor Lundy of Myrtle Beach. She was a devoted mother who until the time of her death thought of her children as her "babies". 1967 was a spiritual highlight for Bettie, when she became baptized as a Jehovah's Witness and began a life dedicated to God's word and the teachings of Jesus Christ. She constantly shared this love with friends and all who would listen. She strived to be a "Godly woman", and her faith sustained her through many hardships as well as years of declining health. In 1984 Bettie married the love of her life, her surviving husband Kenith Burnett of Greensboro. A story book romance that could rival any written down. They shared a love of the mountains, traveling, gardening, and of course a life dedicated to Christ. A love that was truly amazing, and was as strong at the end as it was in the beginning. If we were to use one word to describe her it would be love. Love of friends and family that included numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, on and on. But in particular was her love for her children, her daughters-in-law Sandy and Thelma, and her precious grandchildren, Blythe, Eian, Austin, Taylor, Brandon, Rebecca, and Hayden. Like a mother hen, she remembered "ALL" and constantly concerned herself with the path their lives were taking. Please share with us a celebration of her life on Saturday March 17th at 2:00pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4121 Short Farm Rd, Greensboro NC 27406. Then on Sunday, March 18th at 4:00pm all family members are invited to a private service at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 118 Fayetteville St, Clinton NC. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked if you so desire to make a donation in her name to the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choosing.
