Obituary of Broidia Olin Combs

Broidia Olin "Bud" Combs passed away on May 13, 2018.  He passed peacefully after a brief illness, with his loving wife Mary at his side in their Greensboro home.  He was 86.

Bud lived a full life.  The ninth of ten children of A. F. and Flossie Combs, Bud was raised on the family farm in Wilkes County NC.  After graduating from Union Grove High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army helping to guard the atomic bomb in White Sands, NM.  After his military service he trained briefly as a refrigeration specialist before being hired as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  He worked for the Postal Service his entire career, and was awarded the Million Mile Safe Driver award. Bud retired from the Postal Service in 1990 after which he and Mary traveled extensively.  Favorite trips included Australia, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, and Mission Texas where they wintered for many years and enjoyed numerous trips to Mexico.

Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary, his son Eric, his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tim Gabel, and his two granddaughters Colby and Kelsey Gabel.  He is also survived by one sister, Sina Fulp of N. Wilkesboro NC and a large number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by sisters Lois Gray, Argyle Brown, Reola Cheek, and Treva Gregory, and by his brothers Gray Combs, General Combs, Wayne Combs, and Guy Combs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 17, at Rankin Baptist Church, 3317 Summit Avenue, Greensboro NC.  The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service from 10 am until 11 am. A private burial will take place at a later time. The family wishes to thank all those who assisted during Bud's illness, with a special thanks to Mary's niece and her husband Becky and Danny Tolbert.
