Obituary of Margaret Horton

Kernersville-Margaret Frances Lord Horton, 85, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ the afternoon of February 15, 2012 surrounded by family. Born near Scranton PA, June 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Caswell and Charles Lord. In 1946 she met and married Gilbert L. Horton during his enlistment in the Navy. Starting a family followed shortly afterward and she was a busy homemaker as they lived in Rhode Island and Arizona. When her husband’s service concluded, they moved to Indiana to raise their family but later relocated to High Point, NC and then settled in Kernersville where they enjoyed living in the country for many decades. She was a retired bookkeeper for Borden’s Dairy Products. During their retirement years they moved briefly to Winston-Salem, NC at Brighton Gardens and then to Florida at Lexington Manor in Port Charlotte. Marge was a devoted Christian and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in Kernersville. She supported many organizations that taught the Bible and spread the word of the love of Christ. She loved spending time with her family, dancing, travel and playing Bingo. Mrs. Horton is survived by her children, sons, Gilbert L. (Maggie) Horton, Jr., Madison, NC, Gary (Cathy) Horton, Winston-Salem, NC and daughter Barbara D. (Frank) Williams, Arcadia, FL, grandchildren, James Beck, Heather (Eric) Cartrette, Andrea Beck (fiancé Raul), four great-grandchildren, two brothers, Charlie and Bill Lord of Philadelphia, PA and sister Doris Lord of Elsmere, Delaware. In addition to her parents and her husband she also was predeceased by a brother, Jimmie Lord. Visitation will be Monday February 20 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 1:00PM Tuesday February 21, 2012 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
