Obituary of Donald Bird

Biography Kernersville-Donald Ware Bird, 77, passed away January 8, 2012 at his residence as he was surrounded by his family. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 2:00PM Thursday January 12, 2012 at Kernersville First Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. A Private family interment will follow in the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and spent his early years in Plymouth, Massachusetts; he was the son of the late Anna Ware Barker and Dr. Clarence E. Bird. He served his country with the US Navy. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in Sociology. He retired in 2000, from Blue Bell/VF Corporation in Greensboro, after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Unitarian Church in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother Richard Cranston Bird. Survivors include his wife Martha Hester Bird of the home; daughter Pamela Joan Bird of Charlotte; sons Kenneth Marshall Bird and Debra of Dacula, Georgia, and William Russell Bird of the home; granddaughters Rachael Anna Hamm and Matthew of Winder, GA, and Jennifer Nicole Bird of Athens, GA; great-grandson Matthew Anthony Hamm, Jr. of Winder, GA; sister Dorothy Bird Price and Leighton of Plymouth, MA; brother Robert Hutchins Bird and Marjorie of Plymouth, MA; sister-in-law Jean Bird of Poughkeepsie, New York. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church.
