Obituary of Thomas Fitzpatrick

Kernersville-Thomas E. Fitzpatrick, 79, died January 3, 2012. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 2:00PM Thursday January 5, 2012 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Patterson, Rev. Dale Hilton, and Rev. Rick Carter officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium with full Military Honors bestowed. A native of Lansing, Michigan, "Tom" was the son of the late Emma Elizabeth Burgess and Chester Fitzpatrick. He was retired as a Command Sergeant Major with the US Army serving during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served his Country with pride and certainly was a true Patriot. He was well decorated including a Silver Star and a Purple Heart with two clusters. Tom also had taught ROTC classes at Hill High School in Waughtown. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his sons Terry Fitzpatrick and Gary Fitzpatrick. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 59 years Marian Brown Fitzpatrick of the home; sons Michael Fitzpatrick and Tamy of Pilot Mountain, Dennis Fitzpatrick and Euell of Kernersville, and Keith Wood of Walkertown; daughter in law Denise Atkins of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Christina Butler, Desmond Fitzpatrick, Angela Cook, Amber Fitzpatrick, Sgt. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sgt. Ross Fitzpatrick, Sgt. Sean Fitzpatrick, Sgt. Jessie Atkins, Katie Atkins, Lisa Bishop, Tonya Berry, and Isaiah and Daniel Fitzpatrick; great-grandchildren Trevor Burns, Jasmine Cook, Peyton Fitzpatrick, Hannah Cook, Dominic Fitzpatrick, and Leah Cook; sisters Nina Machtel, Kathleen Drake, and Julie Albert all of Michigan; brother Jon Foster of Winston-Salem. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall on Thursday.
