Obituary of Donovan Culler

Kernersville - Donovan Ray Culler, 64, completed his earthly journey and his battle with cancer on Wednesday January 26, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00PM Saturday January 29, 2011 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Stephen Martin and Rev. Paul Riggs officiating. Inurnment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. A native of Surry County, Don was born August 24, 1946 to the late James Woodrow and Lettie Frances Mathis Culler. The youngest of four children, Don also was preceded in death by his brother James Edward Culler, grandparents Emmanuel and Hattie Bolt Culler, Will and Dell Jones Mathis, father and mother-in-law Paul and Aline Belton Chappell, brothers-in-law Paul Chappell, Jr. and Reid Vernon, Sr. and a nephew Denny Faw. Don graduated from North Surry High School, Surry Community College, and Appalachian State University. He served his country in the US Army, during the Vietnam War, as an intelligence agent. He, and his wife Maxine, are members of First Baptist Church. Donovan loved all kinds of music, animals, and children. He also loved his work at Alliance Display and Packaging particularly his co-workers and enjoyed working on his home. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, and friend for 34 years, Maxine Aline Chappell Culler; step children Sharon Rambold and John, Sheila Green and Philip, Sandra Faulkner and Brad, Sylvia Rowe, Angela Shelton, Katherine Lohr and Burt, and Aaron William Rowe and Yvonne; step grandchildren Lauren Faulkner, Heather Faulkner, Joel Michael Kramer, Cassidy Green, Marissa Green, John Paul Luke, and Timothy Porter; sisters and caregivers Sylvia Faw and Christine Vernon; sisters-in-law Betty Chappell and Diane Culler; nieces and nephews Paula Daub and Mike, Tony Chappell and Brenda, Frankie Vernon and Arlene, Cindy Vernon Jones and Manfred, Benji Faw, David Culler and Emmanuel, Brandy Culler, Casey Culler and Tonya, and Becky Bowles and Alan; numerous cousins, extended family, and friends. Special friends include Philip Shepherd a friend and caregiver, June Khemlani a friend of 34 years, Grace, Olivia and Caroline Hall, Sarah Vernon Carson, and his beloved companions Mr. Kitty, Buffy, and Jody. The family will visit with friends from 12:30PM until 1:45 PM Saturday just prior to the service at the funeral home. Service Information
