Obituary of Virginia Harris Cook

Virginia Harris Cook, 86, went home to be with her Lord December 12, 2019.

Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 11:00AM Saturday December 14, 2019 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel with Rev. Rodney Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00AM Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

A native of Halifax County, Virginia was the daughter of the late Ada Johnell Shearin and Raymond Gerrod Harris. In addition, she also was preceded in death by her brother, J.R. Harris.

She graduated from East Carolina College in 1954 with a Masters Degree in Education. She was a longtime school teacher with the Guilford County School system and finished her career with the Colfax Elementary School. She was a wonderful “preachers wife” for the entire time of her marriage to Rev. Clay Cook. She was a member of Colfax Baptist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-six years, Clay Cook of the home; daughters, Cyndi Cook of Kernersville, and Sharon Brett of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Lem Cook and Linda of Sophia; grandchildren, Holly Little, and Olivia Brett; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Daniel, Wesley, and Brett; sister, Barbara Barbour and Earl of Beaufort; brother, Phil Harris and Phyllis of Littleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
