Obituary of Colonel Glenn Robert Willauer, U.S. Air Force, Retired

Colonel Glenn Robert Willauer, U.S. Air Force, Retired, 75, of Colfax, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Sunday April 5, 2020.

 

Col. Willauer, a Vietnam veteran, retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1997 with over 28 years of Honorable Service. His primary specialty with the Air Force Medical Service Corps was Military Consultant to the Surgeon General and the Health Services Administrator. During his service, Col. Willauer received many decorations, medals, citations and campaign ribbons. Amongst these are the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Short Tour and Long Tour Ribbons, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Expert Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award.

 

Col. Willauer was a revered member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He served on the Council of Regents as Air Force Regent-at-Large from 1985-1989 and Air Force Regent from 1989-1991. Following that, he served on the ACHE Board of Governors from 1993-1996. During his tenure as a Fellow he also served on many committees.

 

A native of Syracuse, NY, and graduate of Syracuse University, Col. Willauer was the husband of 46 years to Sue Carol Willauer and the son of the late Ray Robert Willauer and Jane Rawson Willauer.

 

Survivors include his wife of the home, Sue Carol Willauer; daughter, Suzanne Marie Swistak; granddaughter, Lindsey Kristina Swistak; and grandson, Kiefer Nicholas Swistak.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Jane Willauer.

 

Col. Willauer will be interred with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery at 1:00PM on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. For those wishing to attend the ceremony, please contact Glenn’s daughter Suzanne at suzanne.swistak@gmail.com or 571.437.0300.
