Obituary of Jabez Gilbert Pegg

Jabez Gilbert Pegg, 89, took his final breath the bright Sunday morning of October 22, 2023, surrounded by loved ones and his granddaughter's stuffed animals, which made him chuckle and smile in his last days.

Jay, born to Jabez and Lillian, breathed his first breath on August 13, 1934 in Glen Raven NC. He was predeceased by his parents, his little brother Leon, his sisters Sarah and Paula, and his first grandchild Katie.

In 1984 he met the love of his life, Leola. He's survived by her, the children they share, Elizabeth (Mark) Atkins, Stephen Pegg, Jennifer (David) Harrison, Debbie Cash, their beloved grandchildren, Phillip, Tyler, Landon, and Lana, and several cherished nephews and nieces.

As the son of a Methodist minister Jay grew up in several rural towns across his favorite state of North Carolina. He graduated from high school in Nashville NC, continued on to receive a degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Duke University and worked for AT&T for 30 years. He loved to recount his exciting adventures as a pilot and navigator in the U.S. Navy.

Jay's greatest joys in addition to his loving wife and family, were writing stories and poems, and his beautiful yard. He had an insatiable appetite for knowledge and learning and was entertaining at every gathering with his historical and scientific lessons and sense of humor. Jay was a doting husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

His family is thankful for his wonderful neighbors and healthcare providers.
