Obituary of John Sherman Blevins

John Sherman Blevins, 78, of Ashe County, passed away on December 25, 2023 in Gibsonville, NC. He was born on June 29, 1945, to James Barney Blevins and Elsie Heath Blevins. John had a brother, Scott Blevins, and four sisters, Elizabeth Bowers, Betty Warnick, Mary Kibler, and Martha Lovorn, who preceded him in death.

 

John was a talented musician with a strong work ethic. He had a passion for playing various instruments by ear and was known for his musical talent. In addition to music, John enjoyed fishing, hunting, electronics, and traveling. He loved his best fur friends-Dakota and Max, who were both dedicated to him until they crossed the rainbow bridge. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.

 

John is survived by his loving wife, Mildred, his daughter Mary McMillan (Mike), his daughter Tammy Cassell (Shawn), his son John Blevins (Tracey), and his grandchildren Brayden McMillan, Chance Cassell, Adrianna Blevins, Brice McMillan, Lee McMillan, and Chase McMillan. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

 

 John's career was in roadway construction and fence installation. He was a locksmith and had his CDL and drove a bus for First Student after he retired. . He was a dedicated worker who took pride in his work.

 

John found solace in his faith and attended True Light Baptist Church. He worshipped alongside his wife, finding comfort and strength in his religious beliefs.

 

In honor of his memory, friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the services held at True Light Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. A service to celebrate John's life will be held Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at 11:00. The family will receive friends before the service. The details of the ceremony will be coordinated by Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home. John's The caring staff at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home will assist with the arrangements.

 

John Sherman Blevins will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be always known as Hummy, Papa, Pappers, and for his favorite question “Who are you?” May his soul rest in eternal peace.
