Obituary of Charles Kenwood Heffner

Charles Kenwood Heffner, age 80, was promoted to Glory on September 4, 2017. The funeral service will be held Thursday September 7, 11 am at Newlyn Street United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. Charles was born to Albert Belle Hefner, and Dorothy Harmon Hefner on April 13, 1937 in Guilford County, NC. Charles grew up serving in the Salvation Army, where he cherished being in the band and going to youth camp in the summer. He later became a Lieutenant while serving in the Salvation Army, and then met Connie in which he became a Methodist. He loved Gospel Music, Carolina Basketball, and served his country in the U.S. Army. Charles served faithfully as a member of Newlyn Street United Methodist Church for 51 years in many capacities including being a Sunday school teacher, and also as a member of the church choir. Surviving are his wife Connie Phillips Heffner, son Pastor Scott Heffner and wife Angie of Pelham, NC and three grandchildren Whitney, Joshua and Elijah Heffner. Preceding him in death along with his parents are his brother James Hefner, and grandparents Oscar and Belle Cox. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Newlyn Street United Methodist Church: 212 E.
