Obituary of Christine Summers Hedrick
Christine Summers Hedrick, 86, died August 13, 2018 at Wesley Long Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Christine was born in Guilford County on August 29, 1931 to Linton Roberson and Etna Gordon Summers. She married Thurman Lee Hedrick on June 6, 1952. They were married for over 60 years.
There will be a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th at Friendship United Methodist Church, Brown Summit with the Reverend Kevin Cochran and Reverend Martin Carty officiating. The interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
Christine was an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was a certified lay speaker, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and member of the choir. She also worked with the United Methodist Women both at Friendship and in the Greensboro District. She was on the Board of Directors for the Fire Department where she was Secretary/Treasurer. She was a charter member of the Fire District 13 Ladies Auxillary. Christine was also a member of the Northeast Guilford Civitan Club. She held the office of President and received the Gold Key Award. She worked for the Guilford County Board of Elections for many years. Her career was with Jefferson-Pilot Financial (Lincoln Financial Group) in the claims department for over 45 years.
Christine is survived by, her daughter, Daniese H. Smith of Brown Summit; Granddaughters, Christina Nichole Collins and husband Christopher Collins, of High Point, and Sarah Allyson Johnson and husband Clayton Johnson, of Thomasville; many nieces and nephews; and some very special childhood friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in law, Dwight Smith; brothers, Jack W. Summers, Sr., and infant; and sister, Gaynelle Summers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, on Wednesday.
