Obituary of Helen Poovey Spencer

Mrs. Helen Poovey Spencer died October 2, 2018 at Well Spring retirement community where she had lived for the past 6 years.  She was born in Granite Falls, NC to William Boyd and Bonnie Henkel Poovey.  Mrs. Spencer was a lifelong Lutheran, having been baptized at Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, NC and continuing that faith at First Lutheran Church, Greensboro, NC since 1960.  A private graveside service will be held with inurnment in the Memorial Garden of First Lutheran beside her husband. 

Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles A. Spencer whom she married November 14, 1948 in Granite Falls.  She and her husband moved to Greensboro in 1960 and lived there until their deaths.  After graduating from Granite Falls High School and Evans College of Commerce, she spent her business career with Burlington Industries, retiring after 26 years of service. 

She is survived by their only child, Sharon Spencer Hyder of Glen Allen, VA; grandson Claude Pritchard Davis IV and his wife Melissa Agee Davis of Greensboro, and beloved niece Lynn Lippard Johnson of Iron Station, NC.
