I have been wondering why I haven't heard from Dick! I just discovered this on September 4th.
Dick was a high school buddy, and we oddly ended up in the same Pilot Training class (57-M) in the Air Force. We drove caravan style to training assignments in San Antonio and Marianna Florida. We had parallel careers in the Fighter Squadrons, and My airline time was with United. I last saw Dick at a small reunion in Sioux City with Glen Houpt, Jerry Houpt and some other notables. He was just as funny and pleasant as ever. I will miss him, my list of friends keeps growing smaller!

I had the pleasure of being hired by Piedmont as a flight attendant about the time Dick Strohmeier was hired. I always enjoyed working with him. I have fond memories of flying with him as a First Officer and then as a Captain. He was a humble man and honored to be a part of Piedmont after his time with Braniff ended.
He made the most of his flying career, and it looks like he also created a rich life during his retirement.
Rest In Peace, Captain Strohmeier.

Much love sent to all. Remembering life on Cantrell Street and Hacienda Circle. Pancake breakfasts and bar b que. Life separated our families. My heart will always remember the love and times in the neighborhood.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dick was a truly special person. A supremely gifted aviator, he was also an outstanding instructor, willing to pass on his knowledge and skill.
Dick always, and I mean always, had a good joke to tell!
He was one of most optimistic people I've ever known.
The world is a better place because of Dick and any body that had contact wit Dick is better because of it.
I wish you blue skies and tailwinds, old friend.

We have fond memories through the years of dinners with Dick and Jan while we listened to him share stories about the military, Braniff and his flying career. Our favorite story was about his race at the air show between his military jet and a bi-plane where he broke the sound barrier to win and busted out all the windows in town. We will miss his sense of humor, dedication to family, friends and community and his smile. His family should be very proud of his legacy. Godspeed.

I will always remember, with such fondness, acting with him in a play with the Kernersville Little Theatre. He was there with helpful and encouraging words then and in other social situations. And, he had an ever-ready smile. I am privileged to have known him. He made an impact on this community.

Dick was a beloved member of our Old Salem Chapter Antique Automobile Club for many years, with his beautiful orange 1969 Chevy El Camino, taking us all on a fun ride just knowing him. What a guy, truly one-of-a-kind! He was such a joy and comedian, some of our best times were when he would go on car tours with us, what a hoot! We loved this man, he will be forever missed! Sincere sympathy to the family, he was one wonderful man!

Dick was one of the first people I met in Kernersville when I stopped at the Chamber seeking a church while our house was being built here. Looking for a Lutheran church, we ended up at Fountain of Life, not aware that Dick was a member there at the time. Since that is still my church home, I am grateful for meeting him that day in 1995. It was also nice to know a fellow Iowan down here in Kernersville. I will remember him for his drama performances, and for his laughter. May he find bliss in the presence of the Lord, and I pray for comfort and peace for all the family.

A dear & beloved friend— we had so many adventures together— from fishing at Boone Lake, numerous trips to the mountains to pick up Christmas trees, many trips to pick up BBQ so our Men’s Group could sell — I will always cherish him and he will always hold a special place in my heart

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
Fair winds and Blue Skies Captain
The Piedmont Silver Eagles
