Obituary of Darrell Bull

Darrell F. Bull, 59, of Colfax, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife and daughter at his home on May 21, 2019 at sunset, after a hard-fought battle with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency-related liver disease. He is preceded in death by his loving mother in Heaven, Hazel Bennett Bull.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Crutchfield Bull, with whom he recently renewed vows with on the 40th anniversary of their wedding day; and his daughter, Danielle Bull, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his 3 dogs; his grand-dog; and an abundance of adopted children and friends that became family.

Darrell lived his entire life in the Colfax-Kernersville area. He graduated from Northwest Guilford High School in 1978. was a volunteer Fire Fighter for 13 years with the Colfax Fire Department; he was a Mason and a Shriner. Darrell worked for himself, as well as John Baker Construction, as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years. In 2012, he stepped into a new role to help remodel Bull’s Tavern in Winston-Salem for his daughter. Anyone who was around Darrell would soon learn that was his daughter and her business were his pride and joy.  He was always more than happy to take a back seat to his own skillset to see her succeed and follow her dreams.

He farmed from the time he could walk to time he couldn’t, as he loved the land.

He was very proud of his family. When he talked about them you could see him light up, and he instilled in everyone he met to “follow their dream, to remain true to themselves, and to live life to the fullest.” Darrell would always tell them “Life is an adventure - make it a fun adventure.”

He had a way of sharing wisdom with a sharp country wit and humor. All of us who knew Darrell are full of his funny stories and practical jokes. He loved all music, especially an old well written country song. He loved giving his praise and encouragement to the upcoming musicians he met through Bull’s Tavern.

Darrell will be missed by all who knew him. The world is not quite as bright as it was when he was here. We are blessed to have loved and been loved by him. He will always be here in our hearts and we can tell his stories, hear his laughter, and remember him with a smile.

The family would like to thank the staff in the MICU at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Hospice of Winston-Salem, and especially Dr. Leslie Miller, who cared for him in his final days and hours.
