Hello, I am a formar student of Mr. Dumphy,
I am saddened by his death having just learned of it. Mr. Dumphy was a strict but an excellent teacher who taught me all I know about Spanish and its Latin influance. My enchantment with the language is because of him. Even though he was not physically there through my classes in higher grades his teachings were. He taught language not as if it were a class but a mentality (which I was able to transfer to other curricula). He has excited me with his great stories of Patricius and Hilda or Carlos and Eduardo. I am honored to be one of his "Bubbas". I hope all is well and his legacy of language lives on.
Sincerely
-Matthew Jones 6th grade class of 2016

We are saddened to hear of Finn's death. He was a joy to be around and gave out great hugs. We haven't seen him too much lately, but will miss him. Prayers for the family, as I know you loved him so. Blessings, and hugs

Blessings to this family. May the peace of the Lord be upon you now and forever.
To Deda, Johan, Carl and Kajsa, thank you so much for bringing 'Barry' home to family. He incessantly spoke about his daughter, about her husband Johan and of course, about his 'Bubbas.' Aside from family, teaching was his first love, followed by (in no particular order, because I don't know that order), soccer, tennis, words, and of course, writing (more 'story telling; than anything else, but lovely works all). For Finn, words mattered, as did the usage of those words. Likewise, he cherished the 'thoughts' those words and their usage both provoked and invoked. I always kind of thought that having a Guinness at the local pub was meant to be a place to relax, let off steam, revel with friends. Little did I know the education those visits would surrender.
Music was not so much in that queue in the last years, yet, we who knew him, understood his accomplishments there as well. For someone who could not read music (he was simply unwilling to learn, certainly not unable), his music repertoire was nothing short of phenomenal, but his respect for music didn't stop there. "The Poetry of words set to music", he would say. Indeed.
Bridie would have been proud. I know you are.
It was indeed a privilege to know him and now you. Peace Larry Nichols Columbia SC
