Deborah Clayton

Obituary of Deborah Jean Clayton

Debbie Clayton, 67, of Roxboro, NC passed away on March 18, 2020 after battling a return from a massive stroke on December 30th.  She died peacefully of natural causes at Ashton Health and Rehabilitation in McLeansville, NC.

Debbie was born on November 25th, 1952 to Mary Francis and Leman Oakley.  She lived in Roxboro most of her life.  Debbie worked for many years at the Person County Health Department, then moved to Illinois and worked for the Bunn-O-Matic corporation.  Upon her return to North Carolina, she worked for Allen Industries in Greensboro until her retirement.  Having difficulties sitting still in retirement, she worked part-time baking desserts, and volunteering at the Person County Christian Help Center.

The light of Debbie’s life were her children and grandchildren.  Billy and Jarrod remember a childhood full of good food, beautiful gardens, and their mama cheering for them at ball games.  This love of her boys was only surmounted by her love of her grandchildren.  She would talk endlessly about how proud she was of all those ‘babies’.   She was always there to deliver a dessert, a Coke, a laugh, or a hug when needed.

Debbie was an avid gardener and bird lover.  As she lay in bed looking out the window over the last month, she would name all of the flowers that should be blooming this time of year and give instructions for container gardens that needed to be planted.  She was also always on the lookout for that cardinal at the feeder that would let her know her Mama, Daddy, and Jack were still there looking after her.  Her family will now be on the lookout for that cardinal…we know it is coming.

Debbie is survived by her sons Billy Mooney of Roxboro, wife Tonia, daughters Lauren and Catie Mooney; son Jarrod Clayton of Stokesdale, wife Gwen, children Will, Katherine and Henry Clayton; sister Donna Puryear of Roxboro, husband Jerry, children Felicia Waller of Mebane and Christy Gregory of Roxboro.

Debbie did not want a memorial service, but her family is requesting you share your memories on her memorial page at https://everloved.com/life-of/deborah-clayton/.  In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Person County Christian Help Center https://www.christianhelpcenter.net/.
