Obituary of Justin Ryan Mackin

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son Justin Ryan Mackin (J-Mac),29 of Greensboro. He went to the arms of our heavenly father on Saturday, April 11, 2020. He was born on November 1, 1990 to his loving parents Edwin Hazel III and Melissa Mackin.

Justin attended Northwest Guilford High School where he graduated in 2009. He was a member of the basketball team, playing freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity.

From an early age, he had a profound love and deep devotion to playing basketball. A love he shared with his “papa", who coached and saw his teams to many championship wins. After High School, Justin continued playing on an adult league at Proehlific Park.

Justin was an avid enthusiast and lifelong fan of the UNC Tar heels and his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a true sports lover, whether it was playing golf, shooting pool or playing fantasy football, he put his all in everything he did. He also loved spending summers at the lake with his many childhood friends.

He had an infectious smile that would light up a room. Anyone who knew him well or barely at all, he always left his mark. Whether, it was his silly jokes or boyish pranks, he was always going to make sure you’re going to laugh and have a great time. Justin loved being around his family and friends, he will be so deeply missed by so many.

He is survived by his loving parents Melissa Mackin and Edwin Hazel III; his beloved siblings, Bryson Lambert and Skylar Mackin; maternal grandparents, Tom and Rosemary Callahan of Greensboro and Joseph Mackin of Tampa, Fl.; aunts and uncles, Sam and Debbie Lazarra of Tampa, Fl., and Charles and Tammy Creech of James Island, S.C.; cousins, Sammy, Amanda, Deborah June, Donna and Emily; and many great aunts and uncles and second cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Donna Goodale Rawls of John’s Island, S.C. and Edwin Hazel Jr. of James Island, S.C.
