Donald Wayne Dixon, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Don was born in Greensboro on September 20th, 1943, the youngest child of the late Robert and Gladys Dixon.  Dad attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he earned his Bachelor’s and teaching degrees.  He began his teaching career at Northeast Guilford High School in 1967.  At the time of his retirement, he was teaching Biology and Physical Science at Southwest Guilford High School, where he also coached golf and football.  Early in married life, dad worked at Shell and then owned B&D Tire and Automotive.  While busy with his work, dad still found the time to help our beautiful mom fulfill her dream of opening her own business.  Both mom and dad had teaching backgrounds, and this served them well when they opened Dixon’s Childcare & After School Care, which they operated for 35 years.

Dad was a kind and loving man; he loved Jesus with all his heart and remained devoted to his family and many friends throughout his life.  Dad never met a stranger and will be remembered for his joyful spirit, his kindness and love for others, his passion for sports, a great sense of humor, and his deep appreciation for the Lord’s many blessings in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Dixon, whom he married 54 years ago this week.  He was dearly loved by his daughters, Kim and Melanie, and by his son, Bryan. He was also cherished by his daughter-in-law, Meredith Dixon, and sons-in-law Robbie Nunn and Kirk Wood.  He was Pop-pop to Brett and Nate Wood, Malia and Bo Nunn, and Milo Dixon. Don is fondly remembered and loved by his brothers and sisters-in-law, and by his many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dementia Alliance of North Carolina (dementianc.org), or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (alzfdn.org).
