Joe Thompson

Obituary of Joe Thompson

Joe Hal Thompson, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Friday, July 23. A private celebration of life will be held.

Joe was born on December 20, 1948, in Forest, M.S. to Frances and Robert Thompson. He was a proud graduate and constant supporter of Mississippi State University. Go dawgs! He was a business and insurance consultant and enjoyed helping people in his own personal style. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist on Fifth and loved singing in the choir every week, then heading to lunch and long talks with his sisters. When he wasn’t singing at church, he was playing golf, sometimes he was also singing then, too. Joe loved to listen to music, dance, play progressive rummy and Yahtzee, tell jokes and be with his family. He often sat in the front yard with his grandkids in “Mr. Maple” while they played the car game. He loved looking at the stars in the heavens and was always up for watching a sci-fi movie, often cracking jokes, but definitely while eating popcorn.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his “favorite” daughters, Kara (Chris Vestal) and Leah (Joe Clark), and their children Lilah, John, Flynn and Lorelei. He also leaves behind his siblings and best friends, Joni Wells, Jerri Thompson, Jim Thompson, Bud Odom, David Odom, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. He is reunited in Heaven with his sister Fran, parents, in-laws, and treasured pets. We know Pop is smiling down on us from Heaven while he eats as much fried chicken as he wants, and he’s happy to be there.
