Obituary of Philip Lamendola, Jr.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Lamendola Jr., known to his loved ones and friends as Big Phil or Uncle Phil. He passed away on June 27, 2023, at the age of 90, in his home in Belews Creek surrounded by his family. Phil was born on October 9, 1932, in Passaic, NJ, to his parents Philip Lamendola Sr. and Mary Rose Lamendola.


During his childhood, Philip had a close relationship with his sister, Rose Lee Sturm as well as many uncles and cousins. He attended high school in Passaic, NJ and made lifelong friends along the way. After completing his high school education, Phil proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA during the Korean War. It was here that he met the love of his life, Lois.  After leaving the Navy he continued his education by attending Farleigh Dickinson University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. 


Throughout his life, Phil found joy in various activities. He loved spending time with his family, indulging in his passion for reading, participating in Little Theater productions, playing golf with friends, and also traveling. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, holding many offices.


Phil’s professional career took him to various places, including New Jersey, Ohio, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, and ultimately, North Carolina. Along his professional journey, he achieved numerous milestones, received designations, and garnered recognition for his contributions.


Phil’s family was of utmost importance to him. He is survived by his beloved spouse Ann S. Lamendola, as well as his children Edward (Mira), Peter (Leslie), and Philip (April). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Abbey Mayhew (Nick), Olivia, Philip, Coleman, and Nicholas.


Phil was proceeded in death by his parents Philip Sr. and Mary Rose, his wife Lois H. Lamendola, his sister Rose Lee Sturm and his daughter Mariann Lamendola. Phil leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren who were part of his life. Phil will be remembered for his achievements, his dedication to family, his deep Christian beliefs, and the impact he made on those around him.

Visitation will be held on Monday July 3rd 2023 at 10:30am to 11:30am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kernersville.  A funeral mass will follow the visitation, all are welcome to attend. Internment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery after mass. 


The family will receive friends and loved ones after the internment at 8407 Oak Meadows Dr. Kernersville, NC 27284.
