Obituary of Melton R. Jewell

Melton Reeves Jewell, 94, of Greensboro passed away on September 26, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro.  A native of Waynesboro, Virginia, he was the son of the late Rev. Garland and Mildred (Russ) Jewell.

He served in the United States Navy at a submarine training center. Over the years Melton founded several businesses, including Automotive Fasteners and AFM Sales. He was an avid golfer and was proud of his handicap rating of 5. He had a cheerful and outgoing personality that will be missed by his family, many friends and neighbors.  

He was predeceased by his first wife, Judy Blanche Jenkins and his second wife, Carolyn Ruth Freeman as well as two sisters, Mae McCaul and Eva Taylor and a brother, Jimmy Jewell.

Left to cherish precious memories, he is survived by his sister, Dot Hare, his son; Kiplyn Reeves Jewell (Kelly), daughter; Melodi Louise Hicks, stepson; Billy Freeman, grandchildren; Mary Jewell, Nathan Jewell, Savannah Jewell, Lyra Jewell and Hollis Hicks.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Pierce- Jefferson Funeral Service, Lambeth Chapel with Pastor Bobby Hoyle, officiating.  Entombment will be at Westminster Gardens, Greensboro on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
