Obituary of Thomas Calvin Luper

Thomas Calvin Luper, 86, of Greensboro, died Friday, November 1 2013, at his home at Friends Homes West. He was born January 17, 1927, in Greenville, North Carolina, the son of Pleasant and Mary Luper. Thomas grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and later moved to Greensboro. He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School with the class of 1945 and later attended Wake Forest University and Guilford College. He played quarterback on his high school and college football teams. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. On April 30, 1959, he was married to Glorine Grinnell. Thomas was the owner and president of a successful construction and real estate business until his retirement in 1991. He was an active member of the YBM. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, travelling, social events and spending time with family. Thomas is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Glorine Luper; brother William Luper and his wife Tess; son Thomas Luper, Jr. and his children Erin and Brenton; daughter Patricia Norris and her husband Warren, children Jennifer and Charles, and grandchildren Julia and Will; son Anthony Luper and his wife Mary and son Norman; daughter Dana Allen and her husband Jim and children Travis, Cole and Nolan; and son Christopher Luper and his wife Sara and children Hannah and Rebecca. Thomas was preceded in death by his father Pleasant Luper, mother Mary Luper, brother Raymond (Buddy) Luper, and sister Ruth Martin. A memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 with the Reverend Steve Pressley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
