Obituary of Amelia Ann Thomas

Mrs. Amelia Ann Thomas, 94, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 am Friday, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Thomas was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania September 11, 1919 to Valentine and Martha Balcerzak. She was married to the late Malcolm Thomas. She lived life to the fullest and loved the beach. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Olga Toole (Simon), Eugenia Atwell (Samuel), Alice Lorenz, Martha Howard (Robert) and Irene Lis (William), brothers, Edwin Balcerzak, Victor Balcerzak (Anna) and Raymond Balcerzak (Stella). Mrs. Thomas is survived by her daughter, Joyce McGilvery (Robert); God-daughter, Annmarie Sylvester; grandsons, Robert McGilvery (Lori), and Richard McGilvery; granddaughter, Lynn McGilvery (Matt Miller); great-granddaughters, Katie Westbrooks (Grant) and Mary McGilvery (Dustin Whaley); great-great-grandsons, Graysen and Rayce; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Thursday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the Piedmont, 4527 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27409.
