Obituary of William Jerry Newsome

Mr. William Jerry Newsome, 74, of McLeansville, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Wesley Long Hospital. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Shelley Miller officiating. Jerry was born April 18, 1939 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Garland and Alma Newsome. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth S. Newsome, sister, Jean Wyatt, brothers, Garland E. Newsome Jr. and Charles "Red" Newsome. Jerry is survived by his stepsons, Larry Largen, of Las Vegas, NV and Eric Greco, of Mocksville, NC; brothers, Timothy Newsome and wife Gail, John G. Newsome and wife Sara, all of McLeansville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was a member of the 1957 graduating class of McLeansville High School and a retiree of Witten Lumber Company, Gastonia, NC. After retirement, he and his wife resided at Oak Island, NC where they were active members of the First Baptist Church. Jerry's interests were many but he especially enjoyed reading, bowling, and all sports. He will always be remembered for his keen witt and sense of humor. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Clapp's Nursing Home, Pleasant Garden, for the kind, loving care given to Jerry.
