Obituary of Conrad Edward Gordon

Conrad Edward "C.E" Gordon, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully January 21, 2013, Friends Home at Guilford. Funeral Services will be held, Friday January 25, 2013, at 11 am, at First Moravian Church in Greensboro. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens. Conrad was born in Winston-Salem, NC, May 9, 1919 to the late C.E. and Eva Gordon. Conrad married Virginia Brock Gordon October 9, 1939, and they were married for 69 years before her death in 2008. Conrad joined the Navy, July 3, 1943 during World War II. He served in Buckner Bay, Okinawa, Japan and was a Yeoman 2nd class, at the end of his duty in 1946. Conrad began his successful career at Pilot Life Insurance Company in 1941, holding positions of both staff and district managers, retiring from Jefferson-Pilot in 1983. Conrad was an active member of First Moravian Church in Greensboro, where he served as Treasurer , Sunday School teacher, and Board of Elders member. Conrad was initiated into the Greensboro Lodge 76 Masons on March 1955 and became a member of the Scottish Rite in 1971. Conrad had a love of golf and spent his retirement working at Longview and Pleasant Ridge Golf Courses. He was very active with his golf group and enjoyed the sport into his 90's. His smile, wit, and anecdotes will be missed by his friends at Friend's Home, especially his dear friend David Hodgin. Conrad is survived by his children, Russell Brock Gordon (Julia) of Greensboro, and Marjorie Gordon Sisk (Allen) of Salisbury. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Korie Gordon Lovette (Darren) of Greensboro, and Courtney Gordon Willingham of Clemmons, NC. Two great-grandchildren, William Brock Lovette and Katherine Grace Lovette of Greensboro. Two step granddaughters Tina Clark ( Mike ) and Amanda ( James ) Ijames, 3 step great grandchildren, Justin Clark, Emily Clark and Skylar Wise. In addition to his parents, and wife, Conrad is predeceased, by his brothers, Clyde Gordon, Alan Gordon, Louis Gordon, sister Gertrude Myers, and grandson-in-law, WSPD Officer Russell M. Willingham, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Thursday January 24, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caring, and loving staff at Friends Home at Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Moravian Church of Greensboro, NC, or Friends Home at Guilford, Greensboro NC. Or Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro.
