Obituary of Frances Sloan

Mrs. Frances Comer Sloan, 89, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, at Monticello United Church of Christ, with the Reverend Gary Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Sloan was born October 28, 1923, in Omega, Virginia, to C. Jack and Garnett Cumbie Comer. She was married to the late James (Jim) L. Sloan Sr. A retiree of Sears, she was a longtime and faithful member of Monticello United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship. Until her health began to deteriorate, she enjoyed playing golf, visiting shut ins in the community and working in her yard and flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, C. Jack Comer Jr., sister, Aller C. Faucette, and son-in-law Steve Pegram. She is survived by her daughter, Sue S. Pegram, of Brown Summit; son, James (Jimmy) L. Sloan Jr. and wife Mickey, of Brown Summit; grandchildren, Stefani Pegram, Stacie Pegram, Jennifer Vant Wout, and husband Chris, and James (Jamey) L. Sloan III; great-grandchildren, McKinley Sloan and India Vant Wout; nephew Horace (Dick) Faucette (Gayle); niece, Carolyn F. Martin (Carl) has been her caregiver for the last 2 years. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home and at other times at the family home.
