Obituary of Iris Starling

Mrs. Iris Leonard Starling, 91, of Greensboro, died Friday, November 9, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, at Carraway United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Dianne Marsden officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial park. Mrs. Starling was born March 6, 1921 in Guilford County to William Oscar and Margaret Elizabeth Loman Leonard. She was married to the late H. Frank Starling. A lifelong member of Carraway United Methodist Church, she was very active in circle and teaching Sunday school. She volunteered at Wesley Long Hospital for over 35 years and traveled extensively around the world, through the Education Opportunities Organization, including numerous trips to Israel, the Holy Land. She lived a caring, loving Christian life, always ready to cheerfully help other people. She is beloved by many and a central figure for large family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Sink and 10 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Emily S. Dickens (Richard); sons, Frank Starling Jr. (Celia) and Fred Starling (Jane); son-in-law, John Sink; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
