Obituary of J. Hunter

Mr. J. Norman 'Butch' Hunter, 83, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, NC. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 pm Friday, August 24th at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Butch was born January 13, 1929, in Guilford County, to Floyd J. Hunter and Laura Owens Hunter. All of his life he lived in the Guilford College area. Butch retired from Hunter-Simmons Realty in 2005. Prior to that, he worked for Century 21. He was a volunteer in the Guilford College Fire Department for approximately 29 years and a member of the New Garden Moose Club. In the summer months he enjoyed being with his family and friends at Lake Norman water skiing, cruising around the lake on his houseboat and later on his pontoon and jet ski. He has been known to pull a few legendary pranks at the lake. He is survived by his wife Joan West Hunter; daughters, Kim Cody(Terry) of Sherrills Ford, NC, and Sandy Herring of Savannah, GA; 4 grandchildren, Branden and Brittany Herring of Springfield, GA, Julia Cody of Sherrills Ford, NC, Laura Shell(Jeff), and one great-grandson, Kameron, of Maiden, NC; 8 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernie Hunter(Evelyn) and Paul Hunter(Bobbie), sisters Ruby Ward and Clara Hunter.
