Obituary of Grace Boyd Poore

Grace Elizabeth Boyd Poore Grace Elizabeth 'Betty' Boyd Poore ' May 21, 1923 ' May 22, 2012 Betty Poore, 89, of Greensboro and more recently a resident of Falls River Village in Raleigh, NC, passed away on May 22, 2012. She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Grace Stevens Kline Boyd and Benjamin Harold Boyd. Betty received her primary education in Lawrence, MA and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1941. In 1945, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA. Before her marriage, Betty was employed as a chemist by A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody, MA. She married Everett A. Poore in 1947 and moved to Brookneal, VA, where they lived for nine years. They moved to Greensboro, NC in 1958. Betty was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and was Housing Officer in the Residence Life Office at UNC-G, retiring in 1983. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Everett A. Poore, and her daughter, Lynda Garrett. Surviving are daughter Janice Petrea (husband Troy) of Salisbury, NC, daughter Betty Jean Bowers (husband Johnny) of Raleigh, NC and son Everett B. Poore (wife Paige) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Todd Beasley, Ginny Petrea Moorefield, Erin Petrea, Carrie Petrea Hachadurian, Sarah Benedek Buchanan, Katie Benedek, Johnny Bowers, Jr., Nathan Poore, and Karyn Poore; great grandchildren Alex Moore, Lilly Moore, John Moorefield, Adam Moorefield, and Ayden Beasley; brother George Kline Boyd (wife Jean) of Barrington, RI; nieces Gayle Sommer (husband Jan) of Stow, MA and Sharyn Klaiman (husband Kenneth) of Marblehead, MA. A memorial service will be held at 1pm at Peace United Church of Christ in Greensboro on Friday, May 25. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace United Church of Christ, 2714 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
