Obituary of Lawrence Jones

Colfax-Lawrence Miller Jones, 89, died December 30, 2012 of complications of Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Friday January 4, 2013 at Smith Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Laura Miller Jones and Suttle Webster Jones. He was a graduate of Colfax High School Class of 1940. He then served his country during WWII with the US Army Air Corp in Italy. He was retired from the Lily Company(now Valspar) in High Point. He had been a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, a deacon, and also taught Sunday School for approximately 50 years. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Jones Kirk, sister Laura Nuckles, and brothers Commodore and David Jones. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years Helen Pitts Jones; daughter Beverly Jones Sechler and husband Gary of Wexford, PA; granddaughters Ashley Sechler and Lauren Sechler of Wexford, PA, and Suzanne Kirk of Menlo Park, CA; sisters-in-law Dovie Pitts Dull and Louise Pitts Byrd; brothers-in-law Gene Pitts and his wife Oma Lou, and Harvey Pitts and his wife Lala; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Thursday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville.
