Obituary of Salvatore Albano

Kernersville-Salvatore Mario Albano, 82, passed away November 23, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he was a member, with Father Paul Dechant, O.S.F.S. officiating. He was born October 29, 1930 in the Bronx, NY, to the late Mario and Ida Albano. He joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He met his wife of 58 years, Elveta LaCost, and they married and later moved to Bedford, NY. He served as Chief of the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department and later was named an honorary lifetime member. An electrical engineer, Sal was transferred with his company, Singer-Kearfott Aerospace and Marine Systems to Black Mountain, NC. He was a member and past president of both the Black Mountain Rotary Club and the Men's Golf Association. He retired following 38 years of service and moved to Kernersville to be closer to his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, gardener, and loved his NY Yankees and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by sister Rosalie Clark. Survivors include his loving wife Elveta LaCost Albano of the home; daughters Jennifer Miller and husband Wayne of Kernersville, and Debbie of Kernersville; sons Mario "Chip" Albano and wife Denise of Hickory, Mark Albano and wife Linda of Weaverville, George and Curtis of Asheville; grandchildren Alyson Miller and Matthew Miller; brother Peter O. Albano and wife Beverly of Bedford, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Monday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home.
